Frequently asked questions
What encryption is used?
AES-256 (PDF 2.0 / Acrobat X and later), applied with qpdf.
What is the difference between the open password and the owner password?
The open password is required to view the document. The owner password unlocks the permission restrictions. If you leave it empty, the open password is used for both.
Can permissions be bypassed?
Permissions are enforced by compliant PDF readers. Only the open password provides real cryptographic protection.
